There are many reasons you may need to have a motorcycle shipped. Maybe you just bought or sold a motorcycle, and the other party lives hundreds or thousands of miles away. Perhaps you are browsing bikes online, and you’ve found your dream bike in another distant state. Now you are wondering, how feasible is long-distance transportation of a motorcycle? Luckily, there are a few options.
Online Transporation Marketplaces
There are several marketplaces that connects shippers of large bulky items with freight and other vehicle transportation providers. Many of these providers are perfect for handling motorcycles. One of the benefits of using a marketplaces is that you have many different vendors to choose from. Speed, price, and reliability will vary from vendor to vendor, but you’ll have a lot of options. The marketplace we recommend and have had good experience with is uShip.
Motorcycle Shipping Companies
There are many shipping companies out there that specialize in motorcycle transportation. For example, HaulBikes, offers one-way shipping at a flat rate of $600 to most of the United States. They also often have special pricing for round-trip shipping to events like Sturgis and Biketoberfest. There are other companies out there too. Whoever you choose, make sure to ask for a total price, an estimated delivery date, and how they keep the motorcycle safe while in transit.
If you or a good friend owns a pickup truck, you can likely transport the bike yourself. You’ll just need a loading ramp and some tie downs. We recommend looking for a ramp that is designed specifically for motorcycles, like the folding aluminum arched motorcycle ramp from Rage Powersports. You’ll also want to make sure to get some heavy duty tie down straps that can handle the weight of a motorcycle. Again look for something that mentions it works well with motorcycles and you should be safe. For example Amazon has this Kashton’s four pack of 15 foot 1,500 lb straps for $28 with one-day shipping if you have Prime.
