Ocala, FL — HiBid, an online auction platform, reported the sale of over $53.8 million in gross merchandise value between April 17th and 23rd, with 1,605 timed and online auctions attracting motorcycle enthusiasts and collectors. Among the standout lots in this week’s auctions are some iconic motorcycles that truly celebrate the rich history of motorcycling.
Two exceptional classic selections include a factory-special 1973 Triumph X75 Hurricane motorcycle and a 1975 Suzuki TM250 motorcycle, both in pristine condition and the latter still new in the crate.
Classic motorcycles are typically defined as bikes more than 25 years old, whereas vintage motorcycles are built in 1930 or earlier. This age of motorcycle often sells at auctions due to their rarity, historical value, and nostalgic appeal.
These motorcycles can offer unique designs and engineering that are no longer available in modern bikes. This makes them highly sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the craftsmanship and heritage of these machines. Some of the rarest and most expensive motorcycles sold at auction have brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars, including a 1951 Vincent Black Lightning that sold for $929,000.
When a classic or vintage motorcycle for sale is described “still new in the crate,” it means the bike has never been used and remains in its original packaging, often increasing its value due to its untouched condition.
HiBid is currently featuring several motorcycle-focused auctions, including the Spring 2023 Motorcycle Auction by J. Wood & Company Auctioneers. In addition to motorcycles, HiBid’s auctions feature a wide range of land and water vehicles, such as classic, vintage, and luxury cars, pickups, speedboats, jet skis, antique tractors, ATVs, scooters, and bicycles. Some notable lots include a Super Air Nautique GS20 ski and wakeboard boat and a 1976 Porsche 911 Cabriolet convertible.
