Milwaukee, WI – Motorcycle enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the August 1 release of “Ride Free,” (Buy on Amazon) a memoir by legendary motorcycle designer Willie G. Davidson, who often says he was “born with gasoline in his veins.” The memoir provides a captivating journey through the history and resurgence of one of America’s most iconic brands, Harley-Davidson.

He certainly played a crucial role in the company’s success. His story provides a uniquely personal perspective on his life and career, while also showcasing his artistic talents through drawings and watercolor paintings.

The Harley-Davidson brand’s origins can be traced back to the early 1900s when Davidson’s grandfather and his associates founded the company. Throughout the history of Harley-Davidson, the company has been deeply intertwined with biker culture and has become a symbol of freedom, adventure, and individuality.

The company’s motorcycles, particularly the Harley-Davidson WL used during WWII, have not only played a significant role in history but have also shaped the evolution of exhaust notes and the distinctive sound that resonates with motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide.

Davidson, a third-generation executive from Harley-Davidson, reflects on the early days of the company and shares his motorcycle adventure stories growing up in the shadow of the Harley-Davidson factory.

After studying at the ArtCenter in Pasadena, he became the company’s first true design leader. His creative vision and passion for motorcycles have shaped one of the biggest motorcycle brand‘s legacy. The memoir explores his role in popularizing the term “hog,” which refers to Harley-Davidson’s original racing team – the Harley Owners Group – and their pig mascot.

“Ride Free” delves into some of Harley-Davidson’s most popular motorcycles, detailing the evolution of the industry from the post-WWII resurgence of riders to the growing competition from around the world in the 1960s and 70s.

Davidson emphasizes the importance of remaining true to the company’s unique style and how history plays a role in even the most modern motorcycle designs. The book also reveals his close bond with customers, fostered through events, rides, and anniversary celebrations worldwide.

I always describe my relation to the Motor Company as a love affair, and that’s really what it was, a lifetime love affair with (wife) Nancy by my side.
