The hit series Sons of Anarchy ran for six years and seven seasons on FX and amassed a huge fan following. Following the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, the show featured an exciting cast of characters and storylines that kept audiences on the edge of their seat.
The show’s been off the air now for four years, but that doesn’t stop fans from looking back fondly at the show. And there’s more than just the stories keeping motorcycle fans returning to the show: there’s an amazing array of motorcycles featured.
The love of biker culture on the show even made star Charlie Hunnam into a real-life bike junkie: ‘I love it,’ he realized, immediately after the first day of shooting.
If you’re feeling nostalgic for the program, take a look back with us at some of the coolest sons of anarchy motorcycles from all seven seasons of the show.
1. 2008 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide
This bike was ridden by Ron Perlman’s character Clay, who spent much of the series as the president of the club before being later replaced by his step-son.
Clay rides an amazing 2007 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide on the show. The bike has a Twin Cam 96 Pushrod V-twin engine and the torque comes in at 92ft lbs. This particular model has a 4.8-gallon fuel capacity.
Each member of the Sons of Anarchy has different means of showing pride and dedication to the club. Clay’s bike is no different. It features a custom graphic of the reaper logo on the tank, displayed loud and proud for the world to see.
The original Super Glide was reputed to be the first factory custom motorcycle.
2. 2003 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide Sport
One of the more frequent questions Sons of Anarchy fans ask is: what kind of bike does Jax ride?
Charlie Hunnam’s character is one of the most important in the show and one of the most popular. His ride certainly goes to show for it.
He rides a 2003 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide Sport with a four-stroke V-twin engine. It has a 1449 displacement and is power coated black. This particular bike’s torque is 78.2 ft-lbs and has a 4.9-gallon fuel capacity.
Like Clay, Jax has a detailed graphic of the reaper loudly displayed on his gas tank as a sign of allegiance towards SAMCRO. Like many in the club, Jax’s bike has a front drag fairing. But it also stands out thanks to the custom T-bar handlebars.
Charlie Hunnam looks like a natural riding this bike on the show. This may be because a Harley Davidson is his personal choice of bike off the set as well. Harley Davidson recently announced the 2018 model of the Sport Super Glide as well.
3. Harley-Davidson Electra Tri-Glide
Another great Sons of Anarchy motorcycle is Piney’s bike, a three-wheeled Harley Davidson Electra Tri-Glide. Opie’s bike has an air-cooled, twin cam 103 valve engine. Its torque is 101 ft lbs and it has a six-speed transmission with 6.0 gal fuel capacity.
Piney’s one of the older characters on the show and his bike has been customized to include a holster for his oxygen tank, located on the back of bike between the wheels. His bike also features the graphic of the reaper, but this time wearing an oxygen tank, linking the bike even more to its owner’s character.
Piney gives all Harley Davidson fans hope that no matter how old, you can still be out enjoying the freedom of the open road.
4. 2006 Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob
Tig Trager is probably SAMCRO’s most violent and unpredictable member. His bike, a 2006 Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob, perfectly matches his ruthless personality.
The Street Bob as an air-cooled, V-twin, 4 stroke engine with 1450cc engine displacement. Like Piney’s ride, this motorcycle also features a six-speed transmission but has an 85ftlbs torque and 4.7-gallon fuel capacity.
He has a Sons of Anarchy logo on his tank like many in the club but has also accented his bike with a number of spikes and skulls.
5. 1970s Triumph Bonneville
Lincoln “Linc” Potter is the Assistant U.S. Attorney investigating the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club on the show, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a slick ride of his own.
Linc has an eccentric choice for a ride, the 1970s Triumph Bonneville. It is a British bike, a standard motorcycle with a parallel-twin four-stroke engine. The name Bonneville derives from the famous Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah where Triumph and others attempted to break motorcycle speed records.
Linc has his painted green on the show, and though he is technically the antagonist, you can’t help but feel he looks pretty cool anytime he takes this one out for a ride.
6. 1996 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail
The Mayan Motorcycle Club spends much of Sons of Anarchy as the mortal enemies of SAMCRO. They control Northern California and much of Nevada and run two heroin factories. They also frequently spar with SAMCRO over territory, weapons, and more.
The Mayans will be the subject of a new spin-off series coming soon to FX, which means we might see more of their slick signature ride: a ’96 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail.
Though they had many violent disagreements over the course of the series, no one from SAMCRO or Mayan could argue about the quality of this motorcycle. In Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the Softail frame is designed to look like the rigid frame bikes of the past, while still offering the comfort of rear suspension. The Heritage Softail is one of the more popular Softail bikes that Hardley-Davidson has produced.
7. Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Road Glide
Taddarius Orwell, or T.O., was the president of the Grim Bastards Motorcycle Club on Anarchy and later joined SAMCRO. Played by actor Michael Beach, he was the first black member of the Sons of Anarchy.
His ride is as cool as one would expect from his reputation within the show. He rides a bright orange bike called the Screamin’ Eagle Road Glide from Harley-Davidson. The bike features a Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine and dual bending valve front suspension. It has a 125 ft-lb torque and above all else, it looks really cool.
8. Harley-Davidson Road King
The head of the Mayans, Marcus Alvarez, rode this beautiful custom painted motorcycle in his appearances on the show. Termed “Mayan Green,” its a wonderful color for a very sick ride.
The modern Road King features a Milwaukee-Eight V-twin engine and 111 ft-lb of torque. It also features incredibly high-performing and responsive front and rear suspension with easily adjustable rear shocks.
The character of Marcus Alvarez has been confirmed to return for the Mayans spin-off, so it shouldn’t be too long before we see this incredible bike back on the screen again. Here’s hoping.
9. Custom Chopper
Bobby Munson is one of the gang’s real bike-heads, over the course of the show he is shown owning four different motorcycles.
The first may look something like a Harley but actually isn’t– it’s a true custom build, made from the ground up. This motorcycle’s built on a hardtail frame with mini ape hangers and a springer seat. The front springer forks have been raked to give the bike a classic chopper look. The lace wheels also contribute to this.
The bike has an Evolution engine and runs on an open belt primary drive. Unlike many in the Sons of Anarchy, Bobby does not have front drag fairing on his bikes.
Though Bobby takes his other bikes (a Harley-Davidson Softail Fat Boy and a Harley Davidson Street Glide) out on longer road trips, this custom chopper seems to be his favorite. It’s one of our personal favorite Sons of Anarchy motorcycles, without a doubt.
10. 2011 Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob
The Dyna Street Bob model from Harley-Davidson is indisputably the most popular bike seen on the show. Many different members of the Sons of Anarchy ride moderately customized versions of the bike.
Happy, one of the club’s enforcers and killers, rides a 2011 model of the Dyna Street Bob. It has a 6-speed manual transmission and a fuel injected v twin 2 cylinder engine. The fuel tank holds 4.7 gallons, with 35 miles per gallon in the city, 54 on the highway.
The actual bike used on the show was auctioned off in January 2012, with proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald Charity Home, giving new meaning to ‘happy’ meal.
